Bathroom Sink Make Over in a Budget
We have been living in this house for over 5 years now, its an old 80's built house, so most off the rooms are outdated, specifically the bathroom.
So we planned to update it little by little as we go. Last week we did the hallway bathroom, where our 2 boys go do their shower etc. I didn't take the before photo unfortunately but i found this sink that similar to it was before.
It was pink and clogged with many years gunk, hairs, dirt, toothpaste, you name it.
My plan was to replaced just the top sink, but to find the vanity that in our budget and what I like is a bit difficult. The size of the vanity is 22x31, also the reason we want to replace just the top sink is because we don't want to do more work to replace the flooring too, considering the time and labor, in the long run we will eventually replace the floor but for now we just gonna do the sink first.
I found the top vessel sink from Ikea, it was on sale for $90, the faucet was at clearance for $23, that's a deal. Keep in mind, the plumbing that include with the sink from Ikea is a bit different with US system, so my husband did few tricks to make it works with ours. The top counter we built from scratch using 8inx2inx8ft wood from home depot, we just need 1 of it, and my husband cut by 31" 3x of them, then he join them together with metal plates, just like this.
My son step in and help with the sanding, then I wipe it clean and start to stain it, I did 2 coats of stain, 1 hour dry in beetween, then i put glossy polyurethane to keep the stain and wood last. We let it outside in open air so the smell does not fuming our home. Total work hours probably less then a day, but to let the stain dry, that's what takes so long, at least 3 days.
We finally put everything up to gether the next weekend, and it turns nice for small budget make over.
